    This is the Annual Picnic meeting with candidates as our guest speakers. Make your reservation and payment by 9/3/22. Speakers: Roberta Thacker-Oliver, Campaign Consultant for Taysha DeVaughan, Taysha DeVaughan, District 9 Congressional Candidate, and Lynlee Thorne, Political Director of Rural GroundGame.

County/Community Events

  • School Board Meetings
    With a new school season starting, our presence at local School Board meetings goes a long way to balance out the meetings with a bit of reasonable voice. If you would like to speak at one of these meetings, please look up your county of residence school board protocol and plan accordingly. Note: You must live in the county of which you wish to speak. You do NOT need to reside in the county if you simply wish to attend.

    Bedford County: Thursday, September 8, at 5 pm.
    The location of the Bedford County School Board Meetings varies from month to month. The August meeting will be held at Susie G. Gibson Science & Tech Center Auditorium, 600 Edmond Street in Bedford.
    Franklin County: Monday, August 8, at 6 pm

    Here are some reasons why you should attend or speak at your county’s School Board meeting.
  • Franklin County Democrats Upcoming Events
    • We will begin office hours in mid-September. Deborah Montgomery will coordinate volunteers. Activities will include clerical, housekeeping, greeting visitors and assisting the DeVaughan for Congress campaign as directed.
    • We will have a booth at the Boones Mill Apple Festival on Saturday, October 1, from 9 am to 3 pm in Boones Mill. Taysha DeVaughan will be there to speak and listen to voters.
    • Annual Picnic – Sunday, October 2, at 3 pm in the picnic shelter at the Franklin County Recreation Park at 2150 Sontag Road in Rocky Mount. Taysha DeVaughan and other guests will speak.

  • SML Pavilion Grand Opening – Saturday, September 24, noon to 6 pm
    1123 Celebration Avenue in Moneta
    Bring the entire family, grab your friends, and celebrate the completion of the SML Pavilion with local food & drink options and some free musical entertainment. Visit the website at www.SMLpavilion.com or you can find them on Facebook under SML Pavilion.

  • Acres of Democrats – Saturday, August 27 at 3 pm; the event is free of charge
    Hungry Mother State Park, Lakeview Event Facility, 2854 Park Blvd., Marion, VA
    Hosted by the Ninth District Democratic Committee, speakers include US Senator Tim Kaine, 9th District Democratic Nominee Taysha DeVaughan, Virginia AFL-CIO President Doris Crouse-Mays, and UMWA International Vice President James Gibbs.
