SML Democrats is open to all people of voting age who share our ideals and values. There are many ways you can get started right away making a difference in our community and sharing activities with like minded people.

Join a Committee/Attend Club Activities

Below are some activities you might find interesting and rewarding after you join the club. Contact smldems@gmail.com for more information about any of these activities:

General Membership Meetings

We meet on the fourth Monday of the month. Meetings are at 1:00 pm or 7:00 pm depending on the speaker for that meeting. These meetings inform our membership of club business and host a speaker aligning with our goals and ideals as a club. It is also a time to share concerns and garner support in a caring environment.

Join a Committee:

• Event Planning coordinates fund raising activities for candidates and for the organization. This committee also organizes local social events for members.
• Issues Committee seeks to educate our members and the community about Democratic issues. This committee includes a book club.
• Political Outreach establishes and maintains a positive image for lake Democrats to increase the organization’s visibility, membership and influence in the lake community. 
• Public Relations interacts with local media, manages website content and maintains Facebook, Instagram and BlueSky accounts. This committee also coordinates donations for local charities.
• Election Support keep members updated and facilitates opportunities for involvement regarding upcoming elections and related events; facilitates voter registration and coordinates events for getting out the votes and election day.
• Daily Office Coordination manages the office (Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 11am-3pm) Volunteer staff work in two hours shifts as friendly faces providing information about the club, membership and voting. They ensure the office is a place where members and visitors are welcome and provide office related support to committees as needed.

Get Out the Vote (GOTV):

There are many ways we support Democratic candidates during election season. You can help pass out literature, make phone calls, register voters, work at the polls on election day or help in various other ways. Attend Social Events:

We organize a variety of social activities throughout the year. Pints & Politics is one of our most popular social events where members gather in a relaxed social setting while also supporting local businesses and restaurants.

Keep Our Roads Clean:

We can always use more help to maintain our section of Highway 122. It’s a fun, quarterly event that is followed by lunch for those who choose to join.

Stay Informed:

Our Book Club meets every second Tuesday of the month at 10:00 am for lively discussion on the current selection.

Activities Beyond the Club

To make a donation, pay your membership dues or pay for special events online click here. If you prefer to mail a check, send it to our P.O. Box 897, Hardy, VA 24101, or you can bring a check/cash to the office during open hours (Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 11 am to 3 pm)

*Contributions to the Annual Fund begin in June for the upcoming fiscal year.
*Membership Renewal occurs in June.
*Special events requiring payment occur throughout the year.
