SML Democrats is open to all people of voting age at the lake in Bedford, Franklin and Pittsylvania counties. We hold monthly meetings for members at our office in Halesford Center. Since many of our members are retired, most meetings are held during the day, but we also have several regular meetings in the evening throughout the year.

You can be as involved as you want with SML Democrats. There are opportunities to participate in a variety of committees, and we have election activities every year.

In addition to regular meetings, we organize social and educational events for our members, such as the Annual Picnic, monthly Pints & Politics, and Book Club. We also invite Democratic candidates to introduce themselves at various events.

DUES AND EVENT PAYMENTS

If you’re already a member and want to pay your dues, you may do so online using the link on the Support & Payments page. You can also mail a check to the office (P.O. Box 897, Hardy, VA 24101) or stop by the office during open hours (Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 11 am to 3 pm).

You can also pay for events throughout the year online using the PayPal function on the Support & Payments page of the website. Please be sure to check the box indicating your reason for payment.

Please consider selecting the “service fee” box on the PayPal page. When you enter your dollar amount to pay your dues or pay for an event, it will automatically calculate the total that PayPal charges us to use the electronic service, and this amount will appear next to the service fee box.

PayPal charges us a transaction fee of $.50 as well as a service fee of 3% of the total you are paying. For example, if you want to pay $20, it costs us $1.10; that’s $.50 for the set transaction fee and an additional $.60 for the 3% service fee of your total ($20). So, if you help us pay the service fee of $1.10, it means we get the full amount you intended to pay ($20).
