The Smith Mountain Lake Democrats' purpose is to encourage
participation in the political process in support of candidates and issues congruent with democratic ideals. To educate
our members and the community on local, state, and national issues, and to highlight community issues that will have an
effect on quality of life of Smith Mountain Lake and those communities surrounding the lake.
SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE DEMOCRATS HISTORY In March 2006 a group of women from Smith Mountain Lake gathered to discuss the formation of a Democratic Club.
By the end of the meeting they had decided to meet on the 4th Monday of each month and to open the membership to both women
and men. In April 2006 about 50 people turned out for the first meeting, officers were chosen and the Smith Mountain Lake
Democrats, the "Lake Dems", were born. Over time the Lake Dems have had many accomplishments and have developed
